The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman by Angela Carter

"It was, too, the heyday of trompe l'oeil for painted forms took advantage of the liveliness they mimicked.  Horses from the pictures of Stubs in the Municipal Art Gallery neighed, tossed their manes and stepped delicately off their canvases to go to crop the grass in public parks.  A plump Bacchus wearing only a few grapes strayed from a Titian into a bar and there instituted Dionysiac revelry."

From The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman, by Angela Carter.

I just started reading this book.  At first I didn't think I'd like it, but so many people (2) have recommended her to me that I stuck to it.  Now I think it's great!  Since it's mostly about changing reality, and since that often has no restraints, that kind of writing usually is like grasping at sand, but Angela Carter has given her writing restraints, so it is successful.

Read some nice praises about it's surreal significance. Probably give it go soon.
